Getting Started: Shopping List


Foods to have on Hand in pantry at all times:

Baking:

Good quality eggs (lots and LOTS)
Whole milk cheese
Heavy Cream
Unsweetened Almond Milk
Unsweetened coconut milk 
Stevia Extract (I prefer the Kal brand)
Pure Vanilla Extract (Recipe for homemade to come)
Ground Flax seeds
Butter (I like salted)
Baking Soda
Baking Powder
Salt
Pepper
White Vinegar
Apple cider Vinegar
Other favorite spices and herbs
Unsweetened Chocolate (baking chocolate)
Coconut Flakes

Veggies/Fruit: (Fresh or Frozen, preferably no canned)

Cauliflower (and lots of it- VERY versatile food)
Broccoli
Fresh or frozen green beans 
Spinach 
Zucchini
Avocado
Peppers
Most veggies, limiting those that are underground (potato, sweet-potato, carrots, etc.)

Meats/Proteins: (Good quality- Grass fed is best but if not available or not in the budget, get as best of quality as possible.)  Choose weekly meats based on what is on sale at grocery store.

Chicken (thighs, breast, whole bird for roasting)
Ground beef
Salmon
Pork roast/chops/ribs/boneless ribs
Eggs (lots of eggs)
Turkey

Snacks

Nuts & Seeds (Preferably raw)
Whole milk cheese (raw is preferable but not always available, so just get the best)
2% Greek yogurt (small quantities) 
All Natural Peanut butter or almond butter (organic is best)

Misc.  (Some recipes will call for the following ingredients)
Cream cheese
Sour cream
Chocolate chips

  3. @Laurie, Thank you! I usually get Smucker's or Smucker's Organic or the kind at Target. It is about $5 for 16 oz. Peanut butter has definitely went up in price over the past few months. Consider looking online like at Amazon and see if you can get it cheaper and delivered to your door! ;-)

  4. Hi, as someone just starting on a low-carb diet, I'm really enjoying your website. I am looking forward to trying some of the recipes but was wondering if you have a source for decently priced coconut flour. It's going for $10.00 a pound in my local grocery store, which is kinda pricey!

  5. Hello. I decided to give this wheat free diet a try & I have some questions. As I was shopping today, I found "Heartland gluten and wheat free fusilli pasta". The food & allergan label does not list wheat as an ingrediant. Is this pasta a good choice for me to add to my food list/shopping cart? And is it safe to say that if the food label & allergan labels do not list wheat as an ingrediant that it is a good food option? Also, what about corn flour-is that a good food option? And what fruits are ok to eat when following a wheat free diet? Lots of questions!! Thank you, Lynn

  6. Hello, Lynn here again with a few more questions. I use my bread machine to make bread all the time. Could I just swap out the all-purpose flour for brown rice flour? I really appreciate the starter food list, thank you for that! Would there perhaps be another list somewhere with other food options? is Fiber One cottage cheese ok? Just starting and not 100% certain on all my options. Thank you! Lynn

  7. @Lynn, I over all avoid products labeled "Gluten Free." This means, you will need to read ingredient list and see if other grains such as corn, soy, rice, oats, etc. are included and the pasta you mentioned I can most certainly say includes other grains. Wheat is the #1 evil but other grains are a close 2nd. About fruits, berries such as blueberries and strawberries are best a limit fruits like bananas and peaches, fruits that just taste sweet.

    About your bread machine.... you may never have to use it again! ;-) Bread machines are great when using yeast and wheat because it kneads the dough to develop the gluten. Unfortunately swapping rice flour instead of wheat will not be the best approach. Rice is still a grain, packed with tons of blood sugar spiking carbohydrates. Have you read "Wheat Belly" by Dr. William Davis yet? I highly recommend doing so, gives lots of info on why not only wheat but other grains should be avoided.

  8. hi! As I'm having some health issues and a lot of weight to get rid, I'd like to give this nutrition a try..
    But I have a few questions..
    By grains you also mean chickpeas, white beans etc.?
    And how much of this food are we allowed to eat daily?
