Margarita Meatza Pizza

Who says you can't have pizza!
This will be a hit with the kids I am sure!  You won't even miss the bread and you will get full much quicker and not feel like you are about to go into a diabetic coma after eating it (like I used to after eating regular pizza).

I chose to make this a Classic Margarita Pizza.  You have plenty of options.  You can use fresh mozzarella or the kind that comes in a block.  If you are lactose intolerant, this Meatza Pizza will still be good without the cheese.  The secret is in the meat crust with similar spices to that of great meatballs.  It is actually "pizza" you can pick up and eat.  If you don't have tomatoes, you can use the Marinara Sauce recipe on this blog or your favorite sugar free sauce.  Want pepper, onions, mushrooms, and olives instead?  Not a problem.  Just add your favorite pizza toppings after the meat "crust" has baked.

Margarita Meatza Pizza

Crust
1 & 1/2 pounds of ground meat (beef, turkey, chicken)
2 eggs
1/2 cup Parmesan
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp dried thyme
1 1/2 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes

For Margarita Pizza Toppings
Sliced Mozzarella (or 2 cups shredded)
Fresh basil leaves (or dried)
Sliced Roma Tomatoes
Chopped garlic
Marinara Sauce for base (optional)

Options for Cheese/veggie Pizza Toppings
Sauce
Onion
Mushrooms
Peppers
Bacon
Cheese
Etc.

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Mix together ground meat and eggs.
  3. In separate bowl, blend remaining ingredients and spices.
  4. Add spice blend to meat mixture.
  5. For easier cleanup, line a 9X13 pan (or larger pan) with tin foil.
  6. Press meat mixture out into a thin layer to cover bottom of pan.  Be sure there are no holes.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, set a timer.
  8. While baking, prepare topping ingredients.  If doing the veggie option, saute veggies in pan with a little butter or olive oil until soft.
  9. After 10-12 minutes, remove meat crust from oven and pour off drippings.
  10. Set oven to broil.
  11. Arrange toppings on pizza, make it pretty!
  12. Place back in oven for 5 minutes (maybe less, keep your eye on it).
  13. Carefully remove from oven and sprinkle with some shredded Parmesan cheese and cut into square slices.

  1. I made this tonight.. and it was a success. Even my VERY picky 5 year old asked for seconds, he kept telling me how yummy it was. I made the margarita way but tossed in some mushrooms and onions. I will be making this again, it was a success! Thank you for all you do!
